Behind the Scenes

I thought to share some behind-the-scenes of the publication process!

Here is one of the first sketches of Nia! During this test sketch, I asked my amazing illustrator Julia Listeca with drawing Nia in her bedroom thinking about the hair products she was going to use for her wash day.

We also went through several drafts of the book cover. This one is the closest to the final cover!

Lastly, one of the biggest changes was our title! Originally the title was Nia’s Wash Day and through opinions and criticism from others, I realized the significance of the theme of family and bonding within my book which led to the subtitle A Family Tradition.
